He founded his own production company in the 1910s, and later later merged with Goldwyn Pictures Corporation and Metro Pictures to form Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which he headed from 1924 to 1951! He passed away in 1957 at the age of 73. Important Added Info: Note that this contract has been personally autographed (signed) by Louis B. Mayer! It refers to the construction of a bridge to be used in the chariot race scene in the 1926 MGM version of Ben-Hur (the bridge was needed to provide access to the set). The bridge transversed Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles! Included with the contract are multiple addendums and notes to the contract along with a pencil drawing of the proposed bridge (see our images). Our consignor purchased this from a reputable dealer in 2003, and given that it is a contract which MUST be signed by the actual person, we feel 100% certain it has a genuine autograph, but our consignor does not have a certificate of authenticity. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
