Holds you... Fascinates you!.. The souls of a man and woman in love become the stage on which stampedes all that there is of the human heart... Its sins and its sufferings... Its pain and its passions... Its terror and its glory!"; "The souls of a man and woman in love become the crucible of fear that sets a city ablaze with mob-crazed fury! The most astounding drama the screen has ever known!"; "From the story by Liam O'Flaherty"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a member of the IRA who betrays his comrades to the English in return for money, and then, wracked by guilt, spends the money openly and incriminates himself) starring Victor McLaglen (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Gypo Nolan, the informer), Heather Angel, Preston Foster, Margot Grahame, Wallace Ford (as Frankie McPhillip, the man that Gypo Nolan betrayed for the 20 pound reward), Una O'Connor, Donald Meek, and Joe Sawyer NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this first release half-sheet! Not only that, but other than a single window card, it is the only first release poster from this movie we have auctioned in 25 years (in 1995, we auctioned a three-sheet for $9,775, and in 1992 we auctioned a three-sheet for $14,300, and in 1991 we auctioned a one-sheet for $5,500)! Also note that this poster has never been machine folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were machine folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT machine folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Finally, note that because this half-sheet was printed on a slightly heavier paper, it makes far more sense for it to be sent in a large flat package than rolled in a tube, because we are afraid that rolling it could cause damage to it, and we would hate for that to happen! We will only send it rolled in a tube if the buyer insists, and accepts full responsibility in case there is any damage to it. Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has pinholes, tack holes, tears, stains, and some paper loss around the edges, with a 20" horizontal tear running from under McLaglen's eye all the way to the right border. It had some creases scattered throughout and was once lightly partially folded in the bottom half the center of the poster. Someone years ago put tape on the back of the very long tear and tape on the back of the border defects and did the slightest of restoration to the tear, but otherwise left the poster as it is. Obviously, this incredibly rare poster can have proper restoration performed, and surprisingly, it could be displayed and enjoyed as it is, since most of the defects are in the blank borders.
