An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Tarzan Finds a Son!, the 1939 Richard Thorpe Africa jungle action adventure fantasy thriller ("ALL NEW! The First Tarzan Picture in 3 Years!"; "Based upon the characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Maureen O'Sullivan (as Jane), Johnny Sheffield (billed as "John Sheffield"; as "Boy"), Ian Hunter, Henry Stephenson, Frieda Inescort, Henry Wilcoxon, Laraine Day, Morton Lowry, Gavin Muir, and Cheetah (the chimpanzee). Note that in the books, Tarzan and Jane were married, and there was nothing wrong with them having a son. But in the movies, the producers feared that their son would be considered "illegitimate", so they had him "found" in the jungle (and he was referred to as "Tarzan Jr." in some of the early advertising, but that was dropped, perhaps because it made it obvious he was really Weissmuller's son!). Also, the movie originally ended with Jane dying, because Maureen O'Sullivan didn't want to make anymore Tarzan movies. But fans protested mightily, and the ending was quickly changed so that she survived, and Maureen O'Sullivan was convinced to appear in two more Tarzan movies! Important Added Info: NOTE: Most lobby cards from before 1940 (and some from after that date) did not have individual lobby card numbers like later lobby cards (those printed after the advent of NSS in 1940) did. So we have arbitrarily assigned numbers to unnumbered lobby cards, only when we sell more than one from a set, so that there is a convenient way to tell different scenes apart. (Note that we do not use #1, because this is commonly used to signify the title card). The exception to this is sets of cards that did not have title cards. Condition: very good. Other than pinholes and creases in the corners, and some creases in the right blank border, the card is in quite nice condition.
