DeMille silent New York City Wall Street stolen money embezzlement interracial romance infidelity courtroom legal crime melodrama (about the wife of a man who desperately needs money, and she agrees to an affair with a rich Asian man in return for a loan that bails her husband out without him knowing about it, but then she is able to repay the money before the affair, and wants it called off, but the Asian man literally "brands" her on her shoulder!) starring Fannie Ward, Sessue Hayakawa, Jack Dean, James Neill, Yutaka Abe, Dana Ong, and Hazel Childers. Note that this film was edited and re-released in 1918 to change Sessue Hayakawa's character's name and ethnicity after protest by the Japanese Association of Southern California, and that is the only surviving version of this film. Note that this movie was remade in 1923 with Pola Negri in the lead role and again in 1931 with Tallulah Bankhead! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of 16 groups of incredibly rare stills from Cecil B. DeMille movies from between 1915 and 1923. On several of these titles, virtually no movie paper at all exists! These are all of the groups of early Cecil B. DeMille stills we were consigned, so unless you purchase from this set of auctions, you may not have a chance at groups of stills like these for many years! Condition: very good. Each has glue staining on back (they were likely in a portfolio of some sort at one time) but it has little or no effect on the front. The very rare stills are otherwise in pretty nice condition!
