A Folded Special Poster (measures 11" x 15" [28 x 38 cm]) (Learn More) Buy Christmas Seals: Protect Your Home from Tuberculosis, the 1944 poster poster promoting the purchase of Christmas Seals offered by the National Tuberculosis Association during Christmas, featuring art of a mailman carrying presents and a stamped letter in the snow by Spence Wildey. Note that Christmas Seals began at the beginning of the twentieth century, when the tuberculosis epidemic began. The advent and widespread use of antibiotics helped beat the tuberculosis epidemic in the U.S., although it is still a major problem in developing countries. Christmas Seals are still sold today, but now the proceeds go fight lung cancer and asthma! Note that unlike Girl Scout cookies, Christmas Seals didn't really "buy" you anything you could use. You were given colorful stamps that had no value, and the idea was to add them to your letters next to the postage stamps, to encourage other people to buy them as well.
