A French Art Print (measures 11 1/2" x 15 3/4" [29 x 40 cm]) (Learn More) Maitres de l'Affiche (literally translates to "Masters of the Poster"), one of the 1885 - 1900 French art print sets created during the Belle Epoque in Paris, France. The prints were reproduced from the original works of ninety-seven artists, and was put together by Jules Cheret, often known as the Father of Poster Art. The varied selection of prints were sold in packages of four and delivered monthly to subscribers. On sixteen occasions, the monthly package included a bonus of a specially created lithograph. Artist: Dudley Hardy Important Added Info: Note that this is a French "plate" by Jules Cheret (the father of modern poster art) from the set called "Les Maitres de l'Affiche" (Masters of the Poster), which contained 256 plates. The set included works by 97 different artists. These prints were sold in packages of four and delivered monthly to subscribers, sometimes including a bonus plate. A complete set of 256 plates, in five volumes, was auctioned in 2014 for $43,450. This is an original plate from 1895 (#48) and it is not any sort of reproduction. It has an embossed seal in the lower right corner. Condition: very good. There is darkening around the edges of the print where it was under a mat in a frame. There is a thin line of darkening of the center of the bottom border and a similar one in the top border. There is slight darkening in the restoration of the white borders.
