An Original Vintage Folded HEAVILY TRIMMED French World War II Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 31 1/2" [60 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) 1er Mai (literally translates to "May 1st"), the 1942 French World War II (WWII) Home Front poster (with a tagline that translates to "Labor day") encouraging people to celebrate International Workers' Day (also known Labor Day or May Day), and featuring Roland Hugon art of a hand preparing to grasp a lily of the valley (muguet). This poster was produce by the Vichy France government, which was allied with Nazi Germany after the Germans invaded France in 1940. In 1941, the Vichy government declared May 1st an official holiday to celebrate "work and social harmony", and the lily of the valley (or muguet in France) was the official flower of the holiday (and it remained so even after the way).
