An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 36 pages) (Learn More)

20th Century-Fox 1951-52, the 1951 campaign book featuring images and information for 20th Century-Fox movies for those years. There is something fascinating about this campaign book! Because this was the time that 20th Century-Fox had Marilyn Monroe under contract, one would THINK that she would be prominently included in this campaign book, but amazingly, Fox had not yet realized how wonderful she was! At this time, they had only put her in several of their minor movies, and they also gave her an important small role in "All About Eve". But at the time of this book going to press, they had not yet realized what an incredible asset she was, and while a small headshot of her is included in their pictures of "A Supreme Galaxy of Stars", she is barely mentioned and not pictured in any of the ads for the upcoming movies! On the ad for Let's Make It Legal, it says that "Marilyn Monroe plays an actress modeling everything from swimsuits to equestrian wear", and yet seven people are pictured on that page, and none of them are Marilyn. On the ad for Love Nest, it says "beautiful Marilyn Monroe is the ex-WAC who crashes her way into the couples life and refuses to get out" (but again, six people are pictured, but no Marilyn!). Obviously, Marilyn was a last minute addition to these two movies, and they must have reset the type, but didn't take the time to change the images. Later in this year, Fox would be rushing her into virtually every movie they could, and a year after that, she was their top star, but in July 1951, she was still not recognized as being a major star! However, this issue DOES have a great ad for The Day the Earth Stood Still, which has a montage of images from the movie, plus much text!

Note that this magazine is officially a special issue of "Dynamo" magazine, which was a 20th Century-Fox studio publication. We don't know when Fox started publishing this magazine, but since the earliest one we have seen is from 1944 and says "Vol XIV, No. 9", we would imagine it started in the early 1930s. We know that most issues of Dynamo were small (both in size and number of pages) without color, but they made several deluxe special issues, including this one. When these special issues are large with many pages, we call them "campaign books", because they clearly took the place of the studio yearbook that year (and the covers indicate that).

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this campaign book!

Condition: very good. There is rust at the spine where the staples are on all the pages, but it is not very distracting, and does not affect any printing. There are some smudges in the background areas on the cover. Otherwise, the magazine is in pretty good condition!
