Nero, the 1922 J. Gordon Edwards Italian/U.S. silent Ancient Rome Italy historical biographical romantic melodrama ("Story by Charles Sarver and Virginia Tracy"; an epic re-telling of the life of Nero, including all the major events) starring Jacques Gretillat (in the title role as Nero), Sandro Salvini, Guido Trento, Enzo De Felice, Nerio Bernardi, Violet Mersereau (the only American in the cast), Adolfo Trouche (as Hercules), Paulette Duval (as Poppaea), and Edy Darclea. Note that Fox spent lots of money on this production and it was filmed in Italy, and includes scenes of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the burning of Rome!
