An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 30" x 41" [76 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) That Liberty Shall Not Perish From the Earth, the 1918 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("Buy Liberty Bonds"; "Fourth Liberty Loan") encouraging citizens to purchase Liberty Bonds and featuring Joseph Pennell art of the decapitated Statue of Liberty with a burning New York City skyline in the background. Artist: Joseph Pennell Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a tear in the top left corner that separated part of the poster from the rest of the poster, with some other tears and small paper loss in that area. It had a 4" tear in the upper right border, with a 3" tear in the left of the bottom border and a number of smaller tears around the edges, and most of those tears had tape on the back at one time. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
