Date Sold 9/8/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder, the classic 1954 Alfred Hitchcock 3-D (3D; 3-Dimension) romantic love triangle crime murder mystery detective suspense thriller ("...is that you, darling?"; "Written by Frederick Knott who wrote the International Stage Success"; "If a woman answers... hang on for dear life!"; "Is this the man she was waiting for... or the man who was waiting for her?"; "Perfect 3 Dimension in the Hitchcock manner!") starring Ray Milland, Grace Kelly, Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings), John Williams, and Anthony Dawson. Note that, although this movie was filmed in 3-D, none of the original posters mention it at all (there is an explanation in the pressbook that because they know many theaters will not show it in 3-D, "the ads have been designed so that the 3D copy may be eliminated" [and obviously, this is why they did not put 3-D on the posters]). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Luigi Martinati Important Added Info: Note that this Italian two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: good. The borders of the poster were folded back and the poster was tacked to a wall with some kind of tacks that had square heads, and there must have been a circular snipe in the center of the poster (almost surely one for 3-D). All the parts of the poster that were exposed (not the borders, the circular area at center, and the square areas around the tack holes) have darkened quite noticeably (which means the other areas are much whiter, and stand out quite a bit). There were pinholes around the edges. A 10" part of the left border at the bottom of the top section has completely separated and was reattached with tape from the back. There are pinholes around the edges and some brown dot stains scattered through the poster. Certainly, the poster has significant defects as noted above, and there will be various choices as to how to restore or not restore each of them, but this wonderful poster with great art can certainly be made to look fantastic after restoration, but please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
