a lot of 4 Karyl Norman sheet music. Karyl Norman was the American female impersonator who performed in vaudeville nightclubs and on Broadway, mostly in the 1920s. He was born George Francis Peduzzi and in 1913, he started performing in minstrel shows. In 1917, he traveled to Australia. In 1919, he made his New York City debut as a female impersonator, wearing gowns made for him by his mother, who always traveled with him, and he billed himself as "The Creole Fashion Plate". He specialized in Southern songs, and would have many costume changes, both as a male and female, and he would sing in both a high register and a low register. He toured the entire world in the 1920s, and appeared in many Broadway shows and musical comedies. In 1930, he starred in an act called "Glorifying the American Boy-Girl", which helped begin the "Pansy Craze" for drag acts in New York City. In the 1930s, his popularity waned, and he mostly performed in San Francisco. After his beloved mother passed away, he retired, and he himself passed away in 1947. He is completely forgotten today, except by extreme history buffs or those interested in female impersonators of bygone years, but he was a major star in his time! Note that the items in this lot are from the 1920s.
