An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 13 3/4" x 22" [35 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Orphans of the Storm, the classic 1921 D.W. Griffith silent historical Paris France romantic family melodrama ("A dramatic epic"; "It is astounding! It is unbelievable! It is important!"; "Because of love a king was deposed and a republic born"; "By arrangement with Kate Claxton"; set during and after the French Revolution, with fictitious adopted sisters intertwined with famous historical figures) starring Lillian Gish, Dorothy Gish, Joseph Schildkraut, Frank Losee, Katherine Emmet (billed as "Catherine Emmett"), Morgan Wallace, Lucille La Verne, Monte Blue (as Danton), Sidney Herbert (as Robespierre), Lee Kohlmar (as King Louis XVI). Note that real-life sisters Lillian and Dorothy Gish play adopted sisters (one of whom was an orphan).

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that was 16 years ago, when it sold for $770! The dates on the top blank area correlate to May of 1922, and it could be that the card was printed in 1921 and used in May of 1922, but it is just as likely that the movie was still in continuous release in the middle of 1922, given that it was a major success!

Condition: good to very good. The card was cut across the center into two pieces. Someone taped the two pieces back together from the reverse and they did not match up the two pieces perfectly and there is a slight gap between the two. There are smudges in the blue background areas.
