An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) It Happened One Night, the classic 1934 Frank Capra (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) runaway-heiress-with-undercover-reporter-who-are-complete-opposites-but-fall-in-love-anyway romantic screwball comedy ("Together for the first time!"; "From the Cosmopolitan Magazine story by Samuel Hopkins Adams"; "Screenplay by Robert Riskin"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Clark Gable (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Claudette Colbert (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Walter Connolly, Roscoe Karns, Alan Hale Sr., Ward Bond, and Jameson Thomas. Note that this is a wonderful movie that contains many memorable scenes (perhaps most notably when Gable "instructs" Colbert on how to hitchhike), but it is also memorable for the scene where Gable reveals that he was not wearing an undershirt, which caused undershirt sales to plunge nationwide, and they never recovered! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this window card, and one of those examples was incomplete. The one that was complete sold for $4,900! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. Prior to paperbacking, the right 2" of the card was trimmed off. There was light staining scattered throughout the rest of the card. Overall, the window card was in fair condition prior to paperbacking. A talented restorer recreated the missing area. They did not want to paint over most of the rest of the card, so they removed as much of the staining as they could through chemical means and then pretty much left it as it is. However, they had to paint over the blue background areas, because part of that was recreated in the upper right, and it would have been too noticeable if part of it was unstained and part of it was stained, so now all of it is painted over. You can clearly see that the card had light staining scattered throughout the unrestored areas, but we leave it to bidders to decide how distracting it is, and how much of a detraction it is to them. Please look closely at our super-sized image and consider the card's defects and restoration before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
