An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 13 1/2" x 30" [34 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) The Red Shoes, the classic 1948 (released in the U.S. in 1948 in a very limited release, and then in a wider release in 1949, and then in a very wide release in 1950!) Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger English dance ballet romantic melodrama ("... Dance she did, and dance she must between her two loves."; "There has never been a motion picture like 'The Red Shoes'"; "There have never been reviews as wonderful as these..."; "Winner of three Academy Awards"; "Written, Produced and Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen) starring Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring, Moira Shearer, Robert Helpmann, Ludmilla Tcherina, and Leonide Massine ("The part of The Shoemaker created and danced by Leonide Massine"). Note that Shearer did not want to make this movie, because of how difficult it would be for her to perform the many dance scenes, and it took Powell and Pressburger more than a year to convince her to make it! Also note that this movie won Academy Awards for art direction and music scoring, and it is widely considered to be one of the movies that made the best use of three-strip Technicolor. Also note that this movie includes a scene of the dancers outdoors by tall buildings, and it was too costly to film that scene outdoors, so that scene was done with the judicious use of matte paintings! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. For unknown reasons, someone painted over the original red title with white paint. They followed it closely and did a pretty good job, but the reasons for it are completely unclear, especially since you would think THIS title would be in red (the only thing I can think of is that someone was reproducing it in a magazine or book, and the red did not show well, so they had someone change the title to white to make it show better, and this is reinforced by the pencil marks in the borders, which seems like something a printer would do)! The poster is entirely separated at the top foldline (but no paper loss) and has 1" of separation at the left end of the bottom foldline and 1/2" at the right end. There are a few pencil marks in the blank borders and a tape stain in the center of the bottom border. Certainly, a talented restorer can likely remove the white paint from the title and of course, they can reattach the top one-third of the poster during the linenbacking process, but please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
