Date Sold 7/15/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1949 (from the first release of this movie in Germany) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German "A1" Movie Poster (measures 22 3/4" x 32 1/4" [58 x 82 cm]) (Learn More) The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, the 1947 Irving Reis lawyer legal romantic love triangle screwball comedy ("Date her... or go to jail!"; "When Cary rings that doorbell! Laughs will ring out from coast to coast!"; "Sentenced to make with the jive!"; "Original Story and Screenplay by Sidney Sheldon") starring Cary Grant (in the title role as Dick Nugent), Myrna Loy, Shirley Temple (in the title role as Susan Turner), Rudy Vallee, Ray Collins, Harry Davenport, Johnny Sands, Lillian Randolph, and Gregory Gaye. Note that this movie had a ridiculous contrived plot where Cary Grant is ordered by a judge, played by Myrna Loy, to go out on dates with her sister, teenager Shirley Temple. Of course, this movie could never be made today, and the original tagline "Date her... or go to jail!" would now be reversed! On the other hand, the movie has some of Cary Grant's most enjoyable slapstick comedy, and it includes the routine where he has a conversation that begins with "I know a man..."! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that, immediately after World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and part of Germany, and many American movies were shown in both countries between 1945 and the end of the occupation. Most of the Japanese posters we have seen from that period and many of the German programs from the same period have a "Motion Picture Export Association" circular printed logo on the poster or program, and apparently this was a program run in conjunction with the U.S. government. Since there were many U.S. servicemen in Japan and Germany at this time, many of these posters and programs have the title written in both Japanese (or German) and in English, and they are from the first release of that movie in that country. Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 22 3/4" x 32 1/4" [58 x 82 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had many irregular tears in the top center, in and around Grant's credit, with a tear extending diagonally to the left and ending in the top of Loy's hair, and a similar one at top right extending through Temple's hair, and then zigzagging to the right border. There were two tears 3" to the left and right of the middle crossfold and a 5" tear in the bottom center of the poster in the background area. There was separation on the foldlines and the entire poster had darkened somewhat. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
