The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have seen other Mexican lobby cards from "The Wizard of Oz" that appear to be from a 1950s re-release. Those cards have the MGM logo on them and they also have a large image of Judy Garland, but they have the same cool artwork of the stars that these cards do. We have an added clue with these cards because one of them has the Spanish title of "Half Angel" painted on the back, and that is a 1951 movie! So we think it is likely that these Mexican lobby cards are from a 1951 re-release (which would make sense, because this was during a fairly low point in Garland's career, whereas the other cards are probably from some time around 1955, after she had her big comeback! If anyone knows more about these cards, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that these Mexican lobby cards measure 11 1/2" x 15 3/4" [29 x 40 cm]. Condition: good to very good. Some of the cards have some water stains around the edges. One of them has a title of another movie written in paint on the back, but it does not affect the front. Some have pinholes in the corners.
