Date Sold 7/8/2010Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Winners of the Wilderness, the 1927 W.S. Van Dyke silent Native American Indian cowboy western (McCoy is an Indian scout trying to make peace between the white settlers and the Indians; the movie includes a scene of a nude male settler being burned at the stake by the Indians!) starring Tim McCoy, Joan Crawford, Roy D'Arcy, Louise Lorraine, Edward Hearn, and Tom O'Brien. Note that director W.S. Van Dyke had gotten his start as an assistant on D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" in 1916, and the following year, he was a director of many movies. He directed many westerns and other movies throughout the 1920s, and in 1928, he got his second big break when he helped Robert Flaherty direct "Shadows in the South Seas", and the following year, he was signed by MGM to make "Trader Horn", but it took two years to complete due to all the complications of location filming. The following year, he directed "Tarzan the Ape Man", and the huge success of that movie made him one of the top directors of the 1930s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has never been folded! Most insert posters were folded twice horizontally right off of the printing press. It is very difficult to find an unfolded example of most insert posters, especially from before 1970! Condition: fair. There are three areas of paper loss in the upper right border. There are some stains and tears around the edges of the poster, but the poster is not very fragile. It is fortunate that most of the paper loss is in the blank borders and in solid colored areas, so a talented restorer can certainly re-create the missing areas, and after proper restoration and paperbacking, the poster will look great!
