An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

The Playmates, the 1973 Stephen Gibson (billed as "Pierre La Farce") 3-D (3D; 3-Dimension) sexploitation movie ("In Deep Vision 3-D"; "The revolutionary new 3-D process that will put 'The Playmates' right in your lap!"; "The kind of girls you hear about!"; "The Ultimately Explicit Adult Comedy") starring Henrietta Gibson, Candi Appleton, Rock Hardy, Rene Bond, and Con Covert. Note that this movie was originally filmed in 1973 using the "Deep Vision 3-D" process, and the one-sheets made for it have a 1973 copyright. However, it appears that the distributors had great trouble finding any theaters willing to display it in 1973, and we only found a very few ads from that year and the following year, where theaters apparently showed the movie. It apparently finally had a wider release in 1975 and 1976, with parts cut out for both those releases (apparently distributors felt it was too "ultimately explicit", and made the distributor cut those parts). It appears that all the posters used for all the releases between 1973 and 1976 were all ones that had been printed in 1973, so we are calling this a 1973 movie, even though it really did not have a regular release until 1975 and 1976. Finally, note that Stephen Gibson, who wrote, directed, and produced the movie, was billed under a pseudonym, and the star of the movie is Henrietta Gibson on the poster, which makes us think they were related, although the IMDb seems to think the star of the movie was someone named "Becky Sharpe", an actress who is not billed on this poster, and who seemed to only be billed under pseudonyms. We can tell the other actors billed on this poster are clearly pseudonyms, especially "Rock Hardy"! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm].

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded in half an extra time and it also had an extra horizontal fold 1/2" above the regular top one. It had separation along most of the folds and a crease in the top right corner extending into the background area. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
