An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Legion of the Condemned, the 1928 William A. Wellman silent World War I (WWI) military spy espionage romantic airplane aviation thriller ("A toast to those who laugh at death"; "They courted Danger - they laughed at Death - these men of - The Legion of the Condemned"; "Story by John Monk Saunders"; about a young American man who, during World War I, finds his girl in the arms of a German officer, and he joins the French Air Legion, and later he is ordered to drop a female spy behind enemy lines, and it turns out that it is his girlfriend, who was gaining information on the German he saw her with, so they are reconciled, but then both are captured by the Germans!) starring Fay Wray, Gary Cooper, Barry Norton, Lane Chandler, Francis McDonald, George Voya, and Freeman Wood. William Wellman had made "Wings" the previous year, and Paramount wanted him to use as much of the outtake footage from "Wings" as possible, so they could "get their money's worth". But when the film was ready, Wings was still doing wonderfully at the box office, and the studio ordered the stock footage cut out, so it wouldn't hurt how well Wings was doing! Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful candid still shows an incredible portrait of smiling Gary Cooper in uniform holding beautiful young Fay Wray! Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Note that we are currently auctioning over 100 ultra rare 11x14 stills (some measure slightly smaller) that are mostly from the 1930s, all in separate auctions! The highlight of these is the 58 of them that were consigned to us by a collector who acquired them many years ago, and they feature wonderful images of many of the greatest 1930s Hollywood stars, including James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Edward G. Robinson, and many others! These are many times more rare than 8x10 stills, and are very rarely offered for sale or at auction, and many of these may be "one of a kind"! This is a very rare opportunity to acquire one or many of these extreme rarities! Condition: very good. There are creases in the top blank corners and tiny bits of paper loss in the lower right border. There are tiny tears near the center of the top and bottom blank borders, and faint smudges in the blank borders. There is pencil and fountain pen writing on the back of the still, but they do not affect the front. Other than the above, the still is in excellent condition and will display really well on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
