Date Sold 4/9/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 29" x 43" [74 x 109 cm]) (Learn More) The Cossacks, the 1928 George W. Hill silent Russia romantic war melodrama (based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy; about the son of the roughest, toughest Cossack in Russia, who is a peaceful, cheerful young man, and everyone thinks he is a coward, even his girlfriend!; the people have him wear an apron to show that he is like a woman, and he suddenly snaps, and becomes a fearsome fighter!) starring John Gilbert, Renee Adoree, Ernest Torrence, Nils Asther, and Paul Hurst NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Argentinean poster! Not only that, but the only other posters we have auctioned from this movie are two U.S. window cards (we auctioned each of those examples twice before), a 12x23 Japanese poster, and an Australian daybill until we were consigned this Argentinean poster (and it has great art of John Gilbert, and it has similar art that was used on the beyond rare U.S. one-sheet, which we have never auctioned)! Note that this is from an excellent collection of 15 Argentinean posters we were just consigned, and many of them are ones we have never auctioned before or only auctioned once before. We wish that this consignor had lots more of these, but this is all he had, so this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase one or more of these rare posters, many of which have completely different images from other posters from the same movies from other countries. Condition: good to very good. The poster has separation and small paper loss at the crossfolds, with some tears and tiny paper loss and darkening on parts of the vertical fold and some small tears and slight darkening in parts of the borders. It has some faint brown stains scattered on the back of the poster. After a relatively simple linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will display wonderfully, and likely require little paint restoration. Learn More about condition grades
