An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked South American One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Two-Lane Blacktop, the classic 1971 Monte Hellman illegal-street-car-drag-racing thriller ("James Taylor is the driver. Warren Oates is GTO. Laurie Bird is the girl. Dennis Wilson is the mechanic. Two-Lane Blacktop is the picture."; about two men drag racing across the USA in a grey '55 Chevy; based on the story by Will Corry) starring James Taylor, Warren Oates, Laurie Bird (in her first movie role), Harry Dean Stanton, and Dennis Wilson (member of the rock & roll group The Beach Boys, in his sole acting appearance!). Note that Laurie Bird was 17 year old model when she got this major role. She did a great job and it seemed like it would be the start of a substantial career, but alas, that was not to be. Following a couple more minor roles, she quit acting and became a photographer. At the age of 25, she committed suicide in her boyfriend's (Art Garfunkel's) apartment. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we are not sure what country this poster is from! In the past, we have had a few similar posters (in layout and size), and we have called them "Spanish" meaning they are from Spain, but Spanish collectors have e-mailed us that they are definitely NOT from Spain, and some have suggested they might be Brazilian. We have also labeled some of these unknown Spanish language posters as being "South American", and no one has ever been able to zero in on a specific country. We think it is unlikely this poster is from Spain, or for that matter, unlikely that it is from Argentina, Venezuela, or Colombia. If anyone knows more about what country this poster is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period). It also had a scratch in the bottom of the pants near the center. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
