An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Theatrical Folded Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More) Addio Kira! (literally translates to "Goodbye Kira!"), the 1942 Goffredo Alessandrini Italian Russia revolution romantic melodrama starring Alida Valli, Rossano Brazzi, Fosco Giachetti, Emilio Cigoli, and Giovanni Grasso. Note that this is the 2nd part of a two-part film (the first part is titled Noi Vivi). The films are based on Ayn Rand's novel We The Living, but the rights were never secured because of World War II (WWII), so the movies were made without Rand's consent or knowledge. Rand's novel was critical of the Soviet Union so the film was approved by Mussolini's government, but the movies were also anti-fascist and the film-makers had hidden these parts from the censors. The movies were a great success when they were released, but the government soon banned them and ordered that they be destroyed. Luckily, a set of the original negatives were hidden away. After the war, Rand refused to grant the rights to re-release the movies because of the few pro-fascist additions which had been originally included to appease the censors (though we know of at least one re-release from the 1950s). Eventually, with Rand's approval, the movies were re-edited into a single film titled We The Living and released in 1986. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
