WILLKIE die-cut political campaign 12x18 silk banner '40 United States President! Date Sold 6/21/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Die-Cut Silk Banner Political Campaign Poster (measures 11 1/2" x 17 3/4" [29 x 45 cm]) (Learn More) Wendell Lewis Willkie was a lawyer and corporate executive from the 1910s to the 1940s. He was also the 1940 Republican candidate for president, losing to Democratic incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt. Willkie passed away in 1944 at the age of 52 after suffering a dozen heart attacks. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this banner is printed on silk (common with better quality banners of this time) and it is guaranteed authentic from when the poster was first created in 1940 (it is not dated, but we know this is when this election was held). Note that this poster COULD be rolled in a tube, but we would highly recommend against this, since it is not that large, and we think it would be much safer to send it in a flat package. Also note that this is one of a remarkable group of 13 guaranteed authentic 1940s to 1970s political posters (with a couple of war posters included as well) that we were just consigned! They were acquired by an archive right when they were created, and they have been in storage ever since, until now. These are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these 15 posters! Condition: good to very good. There are light horizontal lines running throughout the silk banner, including throughout Willkie's face. It is very noticeable from super close up, but from any reasonable viewing distance, it is not all that distracting. I would say that the new owner will be very happy to display this historic banner exactly as it is! Learn More about condition grades
