A Portfolio of 5 Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm] Movie Stills (the portfolio itself measures 11 3/4" x 14 3/4") (Learn More) Garbo By Clarence Sinclair Bull, the 1981 portfolio of five limited edition 11x14 deluxe photos of Greta Garbo, published by Edward Weston Graphics, Los Angeles, California. The portfolio is in a really elaborate hardcover case, with black morocco boards, with silver titling on the cover and red silk ties. This is from the Artist Proof set that was limited to ten examples, and each of the 11x14s in this set has "AP" notated in pencil in the lower left blank corner, with "Clarence Sinclair Bull The Kobal Collection" embossed in the lower right corner. The prints are each stored in a vinyl sleeve, which is how this portfolio was distributed in 1981. All of the original paperwork is enclosed (see our images), and one is a certificate of authenticity, stating how many of each type of portfolio were made, and also stating that the images "were printed from the five original vintage 8" x 10" negatives, with Mrs. Clarence Sinclair Bull's permission and guidance in cooperation with, and under the control, direction, and supervision of John Kobal from London who collaborated with Mr. Bull on the first suites" (there had been 50 sets in the first suite created in 1979, along with 10 proof sets). We have searched for information about the sales of this portfolio in the years since 1981, and the only result we could find for a complete set was at Christie's in 1991, when another set of Artist Proofs auctioned for $3,400. This set is being auctioned with no reserve. Important Added Info: Note that these are deluxe stills printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: very good. The set is very similar to how it was when it was created in 1981. However, one of the five prints is still in excellent condition. Three of the remaining four prints have slight rippling in the left and right edges. The last of the prints (the one with Garbo's hand to her head, wearing a cap) has rippling around the edges and many brown dot water stains on the reverse, but they do not show to the front. This almost surely occurred because they were stored in the original vinyl sleeves (one of the sleeves has yellowed on part of it), but it has not affected the face of the images, and the slight rippling in four of them could surely be removed by a professional restorer merely by pressing and flattening the prints. There is slight scuffing on the cover of the portfolio and on the inside flaps. But bear this in mind before placing a bid on this portfolio. Learn More about condition grades
