He is best remembered as the creator of ventriloquist dummy, Charlie McCarthy. Bergen and Charlie were so popular that they appeared regularly on the radio, which does not sound like a possible venue for the duo, but the joy of listening to them was in their personalities much more so than Bergen's skill as a ventriloquist, and in many of their appearances, Charlie McCarthy is treated as a real mischievous human boy, and not a ventriloquist's dummy. Edgar Bergen and Charlie appear most famously in You Can't Cheat an Honest Man, Charlie McCarthy Detective, and Pure Feud AND Judy Canova was an singer/actress/comedienne from the 1930s to the 1970s, specializing in hillbilly roles, and she could yodel really well (so well that she was dubbed "The Jenny Lind of the Ozarks"). Some of her movies include: Sis Hopkins, Broadway Gondolier and Artists & Models. Her daughter is the talented actress, Diana Canova. At the start of her career, she was married to Bob 'Bazooka' Burns, another hillbilly comedian called "The Arkansas Traveler".
