Date Sold 9/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Howard Hawks' His Girl Friday, the classic 1940 Howard Hawks newspaper journalism romantic love triangle comedy ("They're at each other's throats... when they're not in each other's arms!"; "The year's most uproarious romance!"; "I demand my rights... Life... Liberty... and the Pursuit of Rosalind Russell!"; "She learned about men from him!"; "Screen play by Charles Lederer"; "Based on a play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur"; interestingly, this was a re-make of the classic 1931 newspaper movie, "The Front Page", except this movie had the very clever idea of re-casting one of the male leads as a female, and since the character in the original was named "Hildy Johnson", they were even able to keep the same name!) starring Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell, Ralph Bellamy, Gene Lockhart, Porter Hall, Marion Martin, John Qualen, Roscoe Karns, Cliff Edwards, Frank Jenks, Regis Toomey, Helen Mack, and Abner Biberman NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this insert, and that was 19 years ago! Not only that, but we have only auctioned one of each style of one-sheet, and those were 13 years ago and 20 years ago. First release movie paper from this classic movie is extremely rare! Also note that this poster has tape repairs on the back (see below), and it would not make sense to roll it, as doing so would surely lessen the condition. Therefore we must be sent in a very large flat package. Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this poster! Condition: good to very good. The poster has darkened, typical of Columbia posters of this period. It had tiny surface paper loss and separation on all three folds and someone put tape on the back of all three folds. You can see the defects described above, but I would think most collectors could happily display this extremely rare poster exactly as it is (although one could certainly choose to have it backed). Either way, the new owner will have an extremely rare and desirable poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
