Esso is an oil company that was founded in 1911 when Standard Oil was broken up into 34 companies (with often very complicated naming schemes and rights). The company began as Standard Oil of New Jersey but eventually became known as Esso ("Eastern States Standard Oil"). In the past, the company has also branched into other areas, including tires & batteries (under the name Atlas), kerosene, service stations and more. In modern times, Esso is a trading name for ExxonMobil and its related companies.

Important Added Info: This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see!
