An Original Vintage Autographed Matted Photo (measures 11" x 13 3/4" [28 x 35 cm]) (Learn More) Yul Brynner was a Russian actor from the 1940s to the 1970s. Early in his career, he shaved his head, and that became his trademark. Some of his movies include: The Magnificent Seven, The Ten Commandments, and the King & I (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film). Sadly, he died of lung cancer in 1985 at the age of 65 (but not before he made a powerful public service announcement denouncing smoking!) Important Added Info: Note that this photo is undated, but given Mr. Brynner's appearance, we think it is surely from the 1950s or possibly the early 1960s. If anyone knows more about exactly when this is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that what we are auctioning is an 8" x 10" vintage photo of Yul Brynner by photographer Editta Sherman. Miss Sherman matted the photo herself and signed the mat just below the lower right of the still (see our image). At a later date, Yul Brynner signed the mat with a long inscription, and he slightly covered Miss Sherman's signature with his inscription (see our image). Also note that the item comes with a "certificate of authenticity" from R&R Enterprises. Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 91 items that were assembled by a collector decades ago, mostly from RR Auctions, which has auctioned signed items since 1976. The person who purchased these items passed away several years ago, and while he did not save most of the certificates of authenticity he received when he bought these signed items, almost all were purchased between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and we think it is certain that the autograph on this item is genuine. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
