An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Submarine, the 1928 Frank Capra & Irvin Willat underwater U-boat seafaring sailor scuba diving action thriller ("A Mighty Drama of the Sea") starring Jack Holt, Dorothy Revier, Ralph Graves, Clarence Burton, Arthur Rankin, and Joe Bordeaux. Note that original poster material of any sort from this early important Frank Capra movie is EXTREMELY rare! Note that legendary director Frank Capra had gotten his start in 1924 when he was hired by Hal Roach as a gag writer. However, he wanted to become a director, and Roach refused, and Capra went to work for Mack Sennett, writing for Harry Langdon comedy shorts. In 1925, when Langdon left Sennett, Capra went with him, and he wrote several of Langdon's best comedies, including "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp" and "The Strong Man", which Capra also directed. Another Langdon short, "Long Pants", was his next movie, but he was having a falling out with Langdon, and after that movie was completed, Langdon fired Capra, and decided to direct his own movies (like Charlie Chaplin), but those movies did poorly, while of course, Frank Capra soon went to Columbia, where he became increasingly successful with movies like this one, and a couple of years later, he became their number one director, and he had a long string of massive hits in the 1930s and 1940s, including "It Happened One Night", "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town", and many others! Important Added Info: Note that in our last set of auctions that include multiple stills from single titles, we had 72 sets of stills that came from a wonderful group of just-discovered stills that are from 1927 to 1929, with the majority from 1928 exactly. Now, we are auctioning the remaining stills from this wonderful group, 131, all in separate auctions. In addition to them including a LOT of previously unseen stills (and sometimes from incredibly rare titles!), most of these stills have either snipes on the bottom or back, and many have some pencil writing on the back about the movie or actors. After these stills are auctioned, there will be no more stills from this wonderful collection! Condition: good. There is some sort of light surface staining scattered in the still, but it is mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. Learn More about condition grades
