An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Bringing Up Baby, the 1938 Howard Hawks romantic raising-a-leopard screwball comedy (about a paleontologist trying to get a million dollars for his museum, and he is joined in his quest by a flighty heiress who has a pet leopard named Baby!) starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Charlie Ruggles, Barry Fitzgerald, May Robson, Walter Catlett, Fritz Feld, Asta the Dog (the same dog as in the Thin Man movies!), Nissa the Leopard (in the title role as Baby), and Leona Roberts NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1938 U.S. movie paper from this classic comedy has always been incredibly rare! We once auctioned an insert in 1998, but other than that, we have never had a first release U.S. poster until now. Even the lobby cards are extremely scarce. We have only had one scene card and the title card, and the title card (which we auctioned earlier this year) sold for $4,241! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines. It had tiny pinholes, a few tears, and a few smudges around the edges, with a few pinholes within the image and a tear and a stain in the white background below the "GL" of "RUGGLES" at bottom right. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but at some point after it was backed, something happened to it, and there is now surface paper loss at the top of the first "N" of "BRINGING" in the title, extending into the bottom of the chair leg (see our image). Certainly, any talented restorer could easily touch up that area without re-backing the poster, and afterward, this rare and wonderful poster will display fantastically!
