An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Die Freudlose Gasse (released in the U.S. in 1927 as "Streets of Sorrow" and also as "The Joyless Street"), the 1925 Georg Wilheim Pabst (G.W. Pabst) German silent post-World War I (WWI) Austria Depression era melodrama (about the effects of the Depression on an ordinary street in Vienna, and how one crooked butcher makes the lives everyone who lives on the street miserable) starring ("An All Star Cast Including") Asta Nielsen, Werner Krauss, Einar Hanson, Karl Etlinger, Jaro Furth, and a host of actors in minor roles as residents of the street, including a very young Greta Garbo, in her 7th film appearance. After she went to the United States the following year and became a major star, this movie was released in the U.S. in 1927, over two years after it was made. The U.S. distributor released it with a large image of Garbo and she was billed above the title as "Greta Garbo in 'Streets of Sorrow'" (which was incredibly deceptive advertising, because of her relatively minor role)!
