An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Cuban Movie Poster (measures 20" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) 1961 - Territorio Libre de Analfabetismo (literally translates to "1961 - Territory Free of Illiteracy"), the 1973 Cuban poster (with a tagline that translates to "20th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Barracks"). Note that this is a confusing poster! The main title refers to the post-Cuban Revolution literacy campaign which took place from 1960 to 1961. However, the smaller text is commemorating the 20th anniversary of Fidel Castro's failed assault (but political victory) on the Moncada Barracks which took place on July 26, 1953 in Santiago de Cuba. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Rene Azcuy Cardenas Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned an example of this poster! Note that silkscreen (also known as screen printing) is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a poster. Only one color is printed at a time, so several screens must be used to produce a multicolored design, and it is a laborious technique because it is traditionally all done by hand. Because of the rich thickness of the layer of color on the paper and the resulting depth and brilliance achieved through silkscreen printing, this technique was preferred by many artists throughout many cultures and periods. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has slightly darkened and there is a tear at lower center (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
