An Original Vintage Theatrical Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) That Certain Woman, the 1937 Edmund Goulding rich man/poor girl romantic melodrama ("She gave the man she loved to the woman she hated"; about a legal secretary who marries the son of one of her firm's biggest clients, and the father has the marriage annulled, not knowing that the young woman is pregnant) starring Bette Davis ("America's Greatest Actress in the Greatest Role of Her Career!"), Henry Fonda, Ian Hunter, Anita Louise, Donald Crisp, Hugh O'Connell, and Ben Welden NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this insert! Note that this poster has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the poster onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the poster still looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the poster no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with posters that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the posters it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration! Note that this poster was gel backed, and while it could conceivably be rolled and sent in a tube, in this case, we definitely don't want to do that, because someone tried to roll it before, and it started to bring back the folds (see the condition description below). Therefore, we would much prefer to send it in a large flat package. However, if the new buyer insists, we will send it in a tube, but only if they accept responsibility for doing so. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: good to very good. The poster had darkened, typical of Warner Bros. linen inserts of this period. It had creases, scuffs, and surface paper loss on the folds and pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. It had some creases scattered throughout and some areas where there had been tape removed from the back, so there was surface paper loss on the back. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to restoration. The poster was pretty well backed and restored, but the restorer did not address the darkening, and someone once tried to roll the poster, which somewhat brought back the folds, and increased how noticeable the creases are in those areas. This rare poster can certainly be displayed and enjoyed as it is, but bear the above in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
