An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 14 1/2" x 39 3/4" [37 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) Zane Grey's Wild Horse Mesa, the 1925 George Seitz silent cowboy western ("A thrilling tale of the capture of wild horses in the Painted Desert. Breathless adventure and romance!"; based on the novel by Zane Grey) starring Jack Holt, Noah Beery Sr., Billie Dove, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. (in his second adult role!), and Gary Cooper (in his fourth movie ever, all of which were uncredited, as one of the cowboys!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Richardson Studio Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Australian daybill, and that was 15 years ago. The buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 62 linenbacked Australian daybills that all have great art from Richardson Studio (or John Richardson, before he became "Richardson Studio"!), which many collectors feel have the best art and design of any Australian daybills, and are highly sought after by collectors. These were accumulated by a very dedicated collector over many years, and they are now being all offered at once (in 62 separate auctions), so this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or many of these daybills, many of which rarely are offered for sale or at auction. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had creases, stains, smudges, and scuffs across the bottom of the horse's legs and in the top of the title area, and some minor wear in the rest of the poster. It appears that a restorer began to do the restoration on this poster, but then stopped in midstream, and cut out the poster from their linen mounting, leaving excess linen around the excess paper around the edges of the poster (normally, the excess paper and the excess paper would be trimmed to around 1" on each side of the poster). Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. I would think that a restorer could perform additional restoration to this poster without re-backing it, or the new owner could accept its partial restoration and trim the excess borders and frame it as it is. At some point after the poster was backed, it was roughly handled, and there are now creases around the edges of the excess linen, but also horizontal creases across the top 1" of the top blank border (both the poster and the linen).
