A 1951 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Mouse Comes to Dinner, the 1945 William Hanna & Joseph Barbera (Hanna-Barbera) Tom & Jerry cat & mouse animated animation cartoon short ("Produced by Fred Quimby"; Tom wants to have a romantic dinner with his would-be girlfriend Toots, and he invites her over, but he insists Jerry serve as the waiter, and Jerry gets his revenge in many ways, most of them involving Tom biting his own tail!) featuring the voice of William Hanna (as Tom), and Lillian Randolph (as Mammy Two-Shoes). Note that Tom and Jerry is a classic series of cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The first one was created in 1940, and there as a total of 114 cartoons through 1957. Seven of these won Academy Awards for Best Cartoon, tying for most wins with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies. There were around 50 more cartoons created after the first run ended, through the early 2000s, and there were also TV shows based on these classic characters. Some people have criticized the cartoons for their "excessive violence", but actually no blood or gore was ever shown in any of them, and this type of violence is commonly referred to as "cartoon violence". Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are extremely clever and make wonderful use of music. They are not nearly as appreciated today as they should be, but in their day, they were among the most popular cartoons of the 1940s! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that MGM re-released this classic Tom & Jerry cartoon six years after it was originally made, and when they did, they created an entirely different full-color poster for this re-release!
