An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 7 3/4" x 10 1/2" [20 x 27 cm]; 20 pages) (Learn More)

Peppy Polly, the 1919 Elmer Clifton silent reformatory romantic melodrama (Gish plays a girl who wants to reform the awful conditions in girls' reformatories, so she gets herself thrown into one, in order to expose the conditions there, but she finds love with the reformatory doctor!) starring Dorothy Gish (in the title role as Polly), Richard Barthelmess, Edward Peil, Emily Chichester, and Kate Toncray. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned four lobby cards and a Swedish poster from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this pressbook! Also note that this is one of a pretty remarkable group of 12 incredibly rare pressbooks that date from 1917 to 1920! This is from the time period when pressbooks were first made, and it is even before the time that inserts or half-sheets were made! Pressbooks from this time period are among the rarest movie paper collectibles there are. These were all consigned to us from a man who collected for many decades, and it is a far greater number of pressbooks from this period than we have ever auctioned in all our years of auctioning! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. The pressbook was removed from a bound volume and there are a few tiny bits of paper loss down the spine. Otherwise, it is in pretty nice condition.
