An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Mad Love, the 1935 Karl Freund medical doctor transplant romantic love triangle horror thriller ("Dead hands that live... and love... and kill!"; based on the French novel "Les Mains D'Orlac" [The Hands of Orlac] by Maurice Renard; about a mad plastic surgeon who is madly in love with an actress, but she is married to a concert pianist, but then his hands are crushed, and she convinces the plastic surgeon to replace his hands with a "hand transplant", but he uses the hands of an executed murderer, and the transplanted hands have ideas of their own!) starring Peter Lorre, Frances Drake, Colin Clive, Ted Healy (most famous as the person who started The Three Stooges; they were first billed as "Ted Healy and his Stooges"; he let them go on their own, hiring replacement "Stooges", but that did not work out well at all!), Isabel Jewell, Sara Haden, Edward Brophy, Keye Luke, Otto Hoffman, and Henry Kolker. Note that IMDb says that Isabel Jewell, who received fifth billing on the posters, had all of her scenes deleted! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been graded and authenticated by mpgrading.com. This means that a separate 8 1/2" x 11" paper comes with the poster, and that it has been "encrypted with a unique 9-digit serial number with invisible DNA-laced ink" which has been hidden somewhere in an unobtrusive portion of the poster. On the certificate, the poster has been given a grade of "Fine + (7.5) - RG", but of course, that grading scale is not the same as ours (see below). Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Prior to paperbacking, the top portion of the window card had been trimmed off, including the tagline above the title. The card was folded across the original middle, and it had a partial vertical fold, which included a tear from the top of the girl's hair, down to the edge of her eye. There were also some smudges and scuffs scattered in the image, with a few pinholes and some tiny bits of surface paper loss around the edges. Overall, the window card was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. A talented restorer recreated the missing top area and the missing top tagline, and also performed restoration to the folds and image defects described above. The tiny bits of surface paper loss in the edges were likely acquired after it was restored, and certainly, any other restorer could easily touch up those areas. The card will display nicely on the new owner's wall, but bear in mind the restoration it has had before placing a bid on it. Learn More about condition grades
