An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Swiss Movie Poster (measures 22 1/4" x 31 1/2" [57 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) Manon, the 1949 Henri-Georges Clouzot French post World War II (WWII) Nazi collaboration doomed romantic melodrama (loosely based on the classic novel by Abbe Prevost, but greatly altered by director Clouzot; his version deals with a girl at the end of World War II, who "collaborated" with the Nazis, and she is going to be punished, but a French Resistance fighter saves her, and together they descend into a form of Hell from which there is no escape, although they trying to join a group of Jewish refugees looking to go to Palestine!) starring Serge Reggiani, Cecile Aubry (in the title role as Manon Lescaut), Michel Auclair, Gabrielle Dorziat, and Andrex. Note that director Clouzot was himself accused of having collaborated with the Nazis because he made a movie for the German controlled French government, and he was banned from filmmaking for five years, and this was his first film, dealing with a very similar theme, but borrowing heavily from G.W. Pabst's "Pandora's Box", but merging that plot with post World War II France. Many people consider this movie to be as good or better of a movie as "Diabolique", which is considered by most to be Clouzot's masterpiece, but this film is not nearly as well known, probably both because of its distasteful subject matter and is controversial nature, asking questions that are difficult to answer. Note that when this movie was first released in the United States in 1950, it was likely released as an "arthouse" movie (we can't say for sure, because we have never seen a first release U.S. poster), but it was soon re-released in the U.S. as a sexy foreign film, with all the emphasis on "gorgeous, voluptuous 19 year old Cecile Aubry". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. Learn More about condition grades
