A Linenbacked English Special Poster (measures 17" x 24 1/2" [43 x 62 cm]) (Learn More)

The American Register & The Morning News, the 1890s English newspaper poster ("Christmas Number") featuring the Christmas edition cover art of a woman holding a tray with a cooked turkey (but it still has feathers and a head). Note that we can find very little information about this newspaper, but according to the Library of Congress, it was published from 1887 to 1901 in England and Paris. However, the poster features the Latin phrase "E pluribus unum" (the traditional motto of the United States) and an eagle seal that is similar to the Great Seal of the United States. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: SG
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this poster. The buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had creases and scuffs around the edges and some scuffs in the gold border and the gold lettering. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
