A Hand Painted Movie Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 44 1/2" [72 x 113 cm]) (Learn More) Thunder, the 1929 William Nigh railroad train railway engineer thriller ("DRAMA that flashes with the great primitive force of love and hate"; "A new kind of Chaney role; His finest thriller!"; about an elderly railroad engineer who is obsessed with his trains always arriving on time, and it takes some tragedies for him to see that that is not as important as he thought!) starring Lon Chaney Sr., Phyllis Haver, James Murray, Tom Keene, Frances Morris, Wally Albright, and John MacIntosh. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of four original paintings that were created for a local theater in the 1920s. At that time, theaters would often hire local artists to create hand painted individual posters for newly released movies (the most famous of these was Batiste Madelena, who created hundreds of such posters for the Eastman Theatre in Rochester, New York, between 1924 and 1928). Many of these posters were painted on a heavy poster board, and they are often around a one-sheet size. This poster is not exactly a "painting", because the unknown creator took a large color photo of Chaney in character, and glued it to the board and then drew stylized credits and the title beneath that (see our image). The poster was created on a heavy board and must be sent in a very large flat package, so bear that cost of shipping in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Condition: good to very good. The painting is on a heavy poster board and will need to be shipped flat. It is fragile, more so around the edges, and has paper loss in the top and in the bottom left corner, but only background area is affected. It is otherwise in pretty good condition, but do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its condition defects, its need of restoration, and the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package.
