An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Door Panel Movie Poster (measures 27" x 58 1/4" [69 x 148 cm]) (Learn More) Gold Diggers of 1933, the classic 1933 Mervyn LeRoy pre-Code romantic musical ("I'm one of the Gold Diggers of 1933"; "The most beautiful girls in the world"; "You'll tell your grandchildren about the wonders of this mighty hit!"; "Warner Bros. ring up the curtain on the show of the century!"; with dance choreography by Busby Berkeley) starring Warren William, Joan Blondell, Aline MacMahon, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell, Guy Kibbee, Ginger Rogers, Ned Sparks, and Amo Ingraham (as one of the Gold Diggers). Note that Warner Bros. had a giant hit with this movie, and they made a sequel to it two years later called, naturally, "Gold Diggers of 1935", which was followed by a second sequel, "Gold Diggers of 1937". There were also a few other "Gold Diggers" movies made in the 1930s! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of an incredible set of "teaser" door panels created for this movie, each featuring one of the sexy ladies from the film (each barely dressed). However, note that each of the door panels had a tagline that read "I'm one of the Gold Diggers of 1933", and then in the bottom border it had Warner Bros. studio information. The particular poster being auctioned here was used when the movie was shown AFTER 1933, so the theater trimmed off the bottom 5 3/4" so that the "of 1933" was no longer there, because that dated the poster! Note that we have seen another example of this poster that did not have the bottom 5 3/4" trimmed off, and that poster was reported to have auctioned for $11,000 (and that poster had significant restoration), so this may be the chance to get a great discount because of that trimming (which any restorer could easily recreate). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The bottom 5 3/4" of the poster was trimmed off . It also had smudges and stains in the top border area, slightly extending into the top right of the red background. There were some tears and pinholes in the top corners. There were smudges, faint stains, and a few tiny tears in the left and right borders. There was a 10" tear in the bottom border going through the first "G" of "DIGGERS", and smudges, stains, and some surface paper loss in the bottom 6". There were some creases in the top of the girl's hair and some tiny paper loss above her eyebrow, and a tiny mark on her body 1" to the left of her hand. Other than the defects described above, and a few scuffs and smudges in the red background areas, the image area of the poster survived in surprisingly nice condition. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking (depending on how much you take off for missing the "of 1933" from the bottom). The poster was simply backed onto a thin linen with no excess, and no restoration was performed. If I owned this incredible poster, I would surely have it removed from the thin linen, and after proper linenbacking and restoration of the above defects (and I personally would choose to have the "of 1933" recreated, but that will be the new owner's choice), the poster will look incredible, and it will likely have little paint restoration required!
