An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 10 3/4" x 13 3/4" [27 x 35 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Lon Chaney Jr. (son of the legendary Lon Chaney Sr.) was an actor from the 1930s to the 1970s. He was named "Creighton" when he was born in 1906, and throughout the 1920s, he worked at many menial jobs. But after his father died in 1930, he entered the movies, and was billed as "Creighton Chaney" until 1935, when a producer insisted he be billed as "Lon Chaney Jr.", and he reluctantly agreed. He did not have much success in the 1930s until 1939, when he magnificently played Lennie in "Of Mice and Men", and in 1941, he was cast in the lead role of The Wolf Man, and he repeated that role in several other Universal horror movies, and he regularly appeared in many horror and western movies in the 1950s in supporting roles, including a notable one in High Noon. He passed away in 1973 at the age of 67. Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful still has stamps on the back indicating the photographer, Ernest A. Bachrach, and also that it was used by Dell Publishing Co. Handwritten at the bottom of the back of the still is a wonderful paragraph that was clearly written in the 1930s that reads "Creighton Chaney is the son of the late Lon Chaney. It was first proposed that he enter pictures under the name of Lon Chaney Jr., but he, together with RKO officials and Irving Thalberg of MGM, agreed that it would not be fair to his father's memory, and, too, it might give the public the impression that Creighton was basking in the glory of Lon's outstanding career." Of course, we all know that several years later he reversed the above decision and began not only being billed as "Lon Chaney Jr.", but also taking monster roles, and those changes led to great stardom for him! Note that this still measures 10 3/4" x 13 3/4" [27 x 35 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock and it has an embossed photographer's stamp one of the bottom corners. Condition: good to very good. There are many smudges in the top white background areas and some printer marks in two blank borders. Learn More about condition grades
