Date Sold 12/5/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Dizzy Detectives, the 1943 Jules White crime slapstick comedy short ("Deliriously daffy with laughs!"; "A Columbia Short-Subject Presentation"; the Stooges are carpenters who become policemen to help catch a burglar; when they catch the burglar, it turns out to be a gorilla owned by the man who hired them) starring The Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Curly Howard), Dick Botiller, Lynton Brent, Ray Corrigan (as "Bonzo the Gorilla"!), and Bud Jamison. Note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Three Stooges collectors place a high premium on posters from the shorts that had Curly in them, before he was replaced by his brother Shemp. However, those posters rarely come up for sale, and the last one-sheet we had from a Three Stooges short with Curly as one of the three leads was from 1942's "Matri-phony", and it auctioned for $4,800! Now we are auctioning this one-sheet, which is from one year later (and we are also auctioning the one-sheet from "Some More of Samoa", which is from one year earlier), and we have never auctioned either of these one-sheets before! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and fine surface paper loss in parts of the folds. It had tiny pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did very little restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
