DOUBLE OR NOTHING ('37) DOUBLE OR NOTHING ('37) English pb OR search current auctions Auction History Result 3x510 DOUBLE OR NOTHING English pressbook 1937 Bing Crosby, wacky Martha Raye, Mary Carlisle Date Sold 1/28/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Pressbook (English pb; measures 9 1/2" x 11 1/2" [24 x 29 cm]; 12 pages) (Learn More) Double or Nothing, the 1937 Theodore Reed gambling inheritance musical screwball comedy ("Everything's doubled!"; "Based on a story by M. Coates Webster"; a wacky story of an eccentric recently deceased millionaire who, in his will, leaves instructions for 25 wallets to be scattered around the city, each with $100, and a lawyer's business card; only four people are honest enough to return the money, and those four are told that they will each be given $5,000, and they have to quickly try to double it through honest means, and the first one who can do so inherits the dead man's fortune, and if none of them can do it in a set time, the dead man's brother inherits everything, so naturally he wants to do everything he can to prevent them from doubling the money) starring Bing Crosby, Martha Raye, Andy Devine, Mary Carlisle, William Frawley, Fay Holden, Samuel S. Hinds, William Henry, and Benny Baker. Note that this is a very unusual movie in that it had a substantial plot that could have carried the movie on its own, but it was more a backdrop for the many songs scattered throughout. Also note that Samuel S. Hinds, who would later play James Stewart's brother in It's a Wonderful Life, plays the unscrupulous brother of the dead millionaire, and reviews say he did a good job!
