The Miracle Man, the 1919 George Loane Tucker silent crime faith healing romantic melodrama ("There is a strange fascination in The Miracle Man. It is the supreme cry of the soul made visible"; based on the play by George M. Cohan and the story by Frank M. Packard; about a gang of crooks that hide out in a small town, and they find a local faith healer, and they use him to swindle people) starring Thomas Meighan, Betty Compson, Lon Chaney Sr., Joseph J. Dowling, J.M. Dumont, and Elinor Fair. Note that this was one of Lon Chaney's first great successes (he plays the gang leader, not the faith healer; he is nicknamed "The Frog", because he can dislocate his limbs, and he uses that ability to appear to be crippled, and then has the faith healer "cure" him for gullible crowds), and sadly the movie is lost. But in 1921, Photoplay magazine took a poll of its readers as to the best movie ever to that time, and this movie was voted number one! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
