It was his idea to create the tunable tom-tom and he was one of the first drummers to use a hi-hat as we know it today. He also was the first drummer to record using a bass drum. Krupa passed away in 1973 at the age of 64. Important Added Info: Note that this fan photo has been personally autographed (signed) by Gene Krupa (he added the great inscription "To Tony Ross - A Real Hep Cat"). He also wrote his name and address on the back, so it was signed twice, once on each side! Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic.
