An Original Vintage Linenbacked German Stage Play Poster (measures 33 1/4" x 46 3/4" [84 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Reichs-Theaterfestwoche (literally translates to "Reich Theater Festival Week"), the 1934 German poster promoting several stage play productions which were held from May 27th to June 3rd in Dresden, Germany. Note that these stage plays were produced under the auspices of Nazi Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels. He was one of Adolf Hitler's close associates and most devoted followers, and was known for his skills in public speaking and his deep anti-Semitism. He advocated progressively harsher discrimination, including the extermination of the Jews in the Holocaust. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Willy Petzold Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare poster from Germany from before World War II, which we have only auctioned once before. The person who purchased that has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! There are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. Note that the poster has an artist's signature on it, but we cannot read it. If anyone knows the name of this artist, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a tiny stain in the lower right white area. It was mounted onto a thin linen with no excess, and either before or after it was mounted, it acquired small dot stains and a few tiny tears in the left and right borders. It also was roughly handled and acquired a series of 3"-4" horizontal creases down the left side, both in the poster and in the linen. It still displays pretty well as it is, and certainly, additional restoration could be performed, but bear this in mind before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
