An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release (re-titled "Voodoo Village" for this re-release) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Sorcerers' Village, the 1958 Hassoldt Davis witchcraft sorcery voodoo documentary ("Push ahead 1500 miles into the jungle... Plunge back 7000 years in civilization!"; "SEE! The Forbidden Sights of Darkest Africa Frenzied by Superstition and Witchcraft!"; "Written and Produced by Sidney Kaufman") narrated by Burgess Meredith, and featuring Hassoldt Davis and Ruth Staudinger Davis as themselves. Note that this was a husband and wife jungle documentary in the tradition first started in the 1910s by several early jungle explorers. Those movies had been extremely popular in the days before television, when this was the only way an average person could ever hope to see "Darkest Africa". But by 1958, countless movies and TV shows had shown different images of Africa, so this sort of documentary did not have nearly the same appeal as it had decades before! Important Added Info: Note that this African documentary apparently did not do all that well on its first release. For this 1960s re-release, the distributor pulled out all the stops by re-titling it "Voodoo Village", showing a topless native woman, and stressing the horror/fantasy elements of the movie (we don't know how well that worked in increasing the audience, but we admire the great effort!). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and minor fold and border wear. It had a stamp on the back that bled through to the front in the white background to the right of the last "O" of "VOODOO". Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
