An Original 1956 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 45 1/2" x 62 3/4" [116 x 159 cm]) (Learn More) The Seven Year Itch, the classic 1955 Billy Wilder married-man-with-roving-eye romantic comedy ("It's the stage riot that rocked New York for 3 years!"; "Based upon an original Play 'The Seven Year Itch' by George Axelrod"; the movie that features the famous scene where Marilyn is standing over the grating as her dress flies up around her legs; the entire movie was very sensational in its day!) starring Marilyn Monroe, Tom Ewell, Evelyn Keyes, Sonny Tufts, Robert Strauss, Oscar Homolka, Marguerite Chapman, Victor Moore (as the plumber; in his final movie role), Dolores Rosedale (billed as "Roxanne"), and Carolyn Jones. Note that the image of Marilyn Monroe with her skirt blowing up is rightfully the most remembered image of Marilyn from any of her movies. But this movie also has the memorable scene which was extremely risque for its time, where a naked Marilyn in a bubble bath gets her toe caught in the faucet and a plumber must free her! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Boris Grinsson Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare poster! You likely think you have seen it before, but that is because there is a 1970s re-release and a 1980s re-release with the same artwork, but slightly different coloring, and those re-releases are sold all the time. However, this poster is the very rare first French release from 1956, and we have never auctioned it before! Also note that this poster may have been very slightly trimmed and it measures 45 1/2" x 62 3/4" [116 x 159 cm]. Why do I say "may have been"? Because when I measure the poster's height and width from where the folds are, it appears that there might have been approximately 1/4" trimmed from each, which would make sense, because that would mean the poster likely originally measured 46" x 63". But it is also quite possible that a lesser amount, or even nothing, was trimmed. If it WAS trimmed, then it was surely a very small amount. If I could compare it to another example of this poster that I could accurately measure, then I would know for certain, but we have never auctioned it, and I can't find another example to measure! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster may have had an extremely tiny amount trimmed from the borders (see above). It had tiny paper loss at some of the crossfolds and just a few tiny tears and fine surface paper loss on parts of some folds. It had two scuffs in the upper right of the poster. It had a 4" tear and a 2" tear in the upper right border, above and below the end of the word "reflexion". Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
